Earthquake
Here is an interesting fact straight from the EQC web site
- In another year of volatile investment markets, the Natural Disaster Fund grew by $355 million during the year. The increase of 6.4 percent saw the Fund reach $5.93 billion at balance date.
And that is from the 2009-2010 annual report. Why is labour not making any noise about this money? Even though the first quake cost $1.5 billion this still leaves a considerable amount left in the fund. Have a look at this link from the New Zealand herald and what Bill English said just one day after the February earthquake http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10708149 and what about the part of our rates that is put aside for Emergency Services and Democratic Responsibility could these not be put towards the rebuild of Christchurch?
